Countdown to Midnight: DIY NYE Party Hats

Countdown to Midnight: DIY NYE Party Hats
28 Dec 2014

is just around the corner and I was trying to come up with a fun family activity for the big countdown. I realized I had all these birthday party hats lying around, leftover from my twins recent birthday party. The birthday hats were all fairly plain but came in a variety of bright colors. When I think of New Years, I think of bling, shimmering lights and confetti everywhere. So we decided to make an activity out of turning these simple birthday hats into dazzling party hats by adding any kind of glimmer that we could find – shiny stickers, geometric shapes and gems. To spruce them up a bit more, I added pom poms to the tops and to the ring around the base. On other hats, I added curled ribbon coming from the top of the cones. We had a great time re-purposing all these old birthday party hats!

If you have young kids in your family, it is fun to start your own NYE tradition of making creative party hats or DIY noisemakers. In my family growing up, we always ordered takeout Chinese food and played board games together. Other ideas for NYE traditions include creating time capsules, sharing New Years resolutions, and watching a movie together.

What New Years Eve traditions does your family have?

As a working mom of twins, I look out for activities that are easy, quick and budget friendly with a creative flare. Likes to eat the frosting first!
