“Peepcorn”: A Quick, Easy and Delicious Party Snack
29 Mar 2015
What you need
1. A package of Peeps – I chose the marshmallow bunnies in blue but you can also pick chicks and they come in lots of colors (pink, yellow, green, purple). Whether this is for an Easter party or a themed birthday, match the Peeps color with your theme (Hint: blue would also work for a Frozen movie party).
2. A package of microwavable popcorn – I prefer the natural kind with less butter because the marshmallow Peeps make the snack sweet and flavorful enough.
Make the popcorn
Follow the directions on the bag of microwavable popcorn. Usually you place the individual bag (with This Side up) in the microwave and set the time for 2 minutes or so. When you hear the popping take longer than 1-2 seconds between pops, stop the microwave. Do not overcook because burnt popcorn is very stinky! (yes, speaking from experience). Open the bag and pour into a large mixing bowl.
Melt the Peeps
You can do this either over the stove or in the microwave. I used the microwave because it seemed easier to me (and I liked watching the Peeps puff out!). Simply place as many Peeps in a microwave safe bowl as you want. Be careful not to stack them too high near the bowl edge or they may overflow when they expand. Heat the Peeps in increments of 15-20 seconds and watch to see how quickly the Peeps melt.
Pour Melted Peeps over the Popcorn and Mix
Scoop the melted Peeps onto the popcorn and mix as desired. Make one big clump or separate into smaller pieces. Be warned – this is a bit sticky but well worth the small effort.
Enjoy your gourmet “Peepcorn”!
You will love the combination of the sweet marshmallows with popcorn!
