Slam Dunk, Bracket Busting March Madness Basketball Cakes

Whether you are planning a basketball-themed birthday party or a March Madness celebration, basketball cakes, cupcakes and cake pops are fun and easy to make. What is easier than a big round orange ball with a couple lines?

For a quick set of cupcakes, I thought I would try an orange flavored boxed cake mix, Pillsbury Orangesicle. Really you can use any readily available flavor – chocolate, vanilla, or whatever. The key draw is the orange frosting anyway. For the frosting I used the matching Pillsbury Orangesicle flavor from a can.

For the lines on the basketball, use black gel or frosting. My favorite option is mini chocolate morsels, however placing the morsels upright in a straight line proved to be difficult. I gave up on a couple cupcakes and just made a random pattern for fun. The frosting color turned out to look a little lighter than I had hoped, but the creamy orange crème popsicle flavor was out of this world! Ok So orange round balls were not as easy to make as planned but I had a blast doing it.
